Footnote.com, the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, FamilySearch and Lowcountry Africana, have joined forces to digitize every surviving estate inventory for Colonial and Charleston South Carolina from 1732 to 1872, as well as selected Bills of Sale for the same period, in a FREE collection. When the project is complete, the names of more than 30,000 enslaved ancestors from Charleston and surrounding counties will be restored to history in a free online collection, preserved for generations to come. There are thousands of American Slaves, noted by name, listed in these estate inventories!
I just finished indexing my first 10 pages, and I plan to do more. In fact, I have committed to help with the indexing until the project is complete. Once you’ve completed 10 pages, you can claim your Ancestors Badge to display on your blog or website. I claimed my badge today, and proudly display it here. The more people that get involved with this project the faster this project will be complete. Why not join the effort today.
Volunteers are needed in this indexing project.
Your contribution to indexing the records in the new free Footnote collection SC Estate Inventories and Bills of Sale, 1732-1872 will make an enormous impact. Go to the Restore the Ancestors website to learn more and be a part of bringing the names of those American slaves into the light of family history and genealogy research! Sign up today! We need your help and support. Please get involved!
I am not ashamed of my grandparents for having been slaves. I am only ashamed of myself for having at one time been ashamed. ~Ralph Ellison~

Hi!
My name is Lauren Jackson and I wanted to provide feedback on your page, I Never Knew My Father. I’m not sure if you’re the right person to contact, but I wanted to tell you that since I have been working on creating some new genealogy resources, your page was a great source of information.
As a thank you, I thought I would pass along this additional resource I have been using as well in case you were looking to add more to your page. I have been using material from this page, http://www.onlinesocialworkdegree.org/genealogy-resources. It has a ton of great genealogy resources that you and your users may find useful!
Thanks Again
Lauren

FRIENDS..FOREVER..LUCRETIA
As a total “newbie” with my blog, I wanted you to know how much I appreciate you being a “follower”! We Georgian’s must stick together! I love the look of your new site! I’ve been focusing on genealogy activities for 2011 that I’ve always wanted to try, coming up with a new daily schedule that will allow me to manage my time better, and coming up with those New Year’s Resolutions that I will (hopefully) stick with in 2011. After reading your post about the S.C. records that need to be transcribed at Footnote.com, I’ve decided to choose these records for my very first transcribing “experience”! I’ve always wanted to do this, but never found the time, or the right records-if that makes any sense!? There are so many important reasons to do this, and I feel such an urgency to start the process! I’ll let you know how things are going-with both the records and the resolutions! I’m also going to write a post on my blog to let people know what I’m doing, with the hopes that I can continue to get the message out to others about the importance of getting these names out on the Footnote.com Archives! Hopefully, this will solve many “brick walls” for others!
Lucretia & Cheryl,
Thanks for deciding to join in and help with getting the SC records online. These estate records and inventories are a great genealogy resource. I am finding it a very rewarding experience.
Lucretia, I hope you have had success getting the Footnote viewer to load. Thank you for all the tips you gave me on a common GA surnames.
Cheryl, Welcome to the genea-blogging community. I’m fairly new myself, just a little over a year, and I know how important support from your follow bloggers can be. I am planning to blog on a more regular basis in 2011. The ancestors have been quiet these past few months, but things are picking up. Good luck to you in the new year. You’re right, we Georgians must stick together!
Sandra
